Mazal Tov to Kollel member Pinchas and Tamar Hirshman on the birth of a baby girl! May they be Zocheh to be Megadel her to Torah, Chuppah, and Maasim Tovim!

If you are considering coming to Benzie Senter and Tzippi Rosenblum’s wedding on July 3rd, please fill out this form so they can send you a wedding invitation.

The Rosh Yeshiva plans to give us Shiur tomorrow (Wednesday) morning on Harchakos.

We will be having Shimush in Maaros with Rav Warfman tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3:30 P.M. in his Shul at the corner of Grandview and Forshay.

Rabbi Gottlieb will be giving us Shiur on Thursdayat 11:30 A.M. in the 3rd floor of Darchei Noam.

Although the deadline for submissions for the Sefer has passed we are still accepting submissions for this year’s Sefer. Unfortunately, we can no longer guarantee that they will be edited, however based on our editor’s phenomenal track record I’m fairly confident that as long as we get it by early next week that should give him enough time to have it edited in time. if for some reason it is not ready on time it will be included in next year’s Sefer.

Rabbi Coren has submitted a piece to the journal containing 12 Divrei Torah on Nissuin. It is available for sponsorship for $450.

So far we have only received one sponsorship. We need significantly more. If you know anyone who may be interested interested in sponsoring the Sefer, any part of it, or placing an ad please send them this dedications page. I also have extra copies of previous year’s Sefarim that you can give to potential donors.

The Yeshiva dinner will be in three weeks, on June 1st in the Atrium (401 West Route 59). The reception will begin at 7:00 P.M. and the dinner will begin at 7:45 P.M. You can visit http://www.ohrreuven.com/dinner.php for more information. The Sefarim will be available for free at the dinner. Although in the past we have always had extra copies, if you would will not be able to attend the dinner please let me know and I will reserve you a copy.

We would like to have some sort of Kollel event on Lag Be’omer afternoon, probably something low key to the tune of a barbecue or pizza, and maybe a ballgame if there is interest. Please let me know if you have any thoughts, ideas, or comments.

It is with great pride that the Kollel LeHora’ah of Yeshivas Ohr Reuven looks forward to publishing its third annual Koveitz of Chiddushei Torah. The impressive collection of essays from the Kollel’s Yungerleit and alumni, as well as various contributions from the yeshiva’s Rabbeim, has been an attestation to the growth and vitality of the kollel over the last few years. As in the past, this Sefer demonstrates the exceptional caliber of our Yungerleit and offers the public an insider’s view of the Torah studied daily in our Beis Medrash.

As part of our recent efforts to expand the Chabura and our support for our Yungerleit, we are turning to the public for support for this project. Proceeds from this campaign will not only enable us to share the Torah of the Kollel beyond the walls of the Beis Medrash, but will also promote the Kollel’s dedication to Limmud Hatorah throughout the year. If you have not yet visited, we encourage you to drop by and meet the Chavrei Hakollel and partake in one of the many weekly Shiurim. We look forward to welcoming you!

As the campaign for this year’s koveitz begins, various dedication opportunities are still available. Please choose from the options below so we can properly recognize your contribution.

Mazal Tov to the Senter, Grossman, and Rosenblum families on the engagement of Kollel member Bentzi Senter to Tzippi Rosenblum! The Vort will take place Sunday, May 1st from 5-8 P.M.in Bais Yosef (1502 Ave. N), Brooklyn, New York 11230. May they be Zocheh to build a Bayis Ne’eman Beyisrael!

Mazel Tov to alumnus Rabbi Ovadia Hoffman upon his engagement to Leah Chkouri from Brooklyn! May they be Zocheh to build a Bayis Ne’eman Beyisrael!

Rabbi Zelig Kosovsky, a Talmoid of Rav Elyashiv for 25 years, gave us Shiur on what Rav Elyashiv held about filling up Negel Vasser in terms of Harchakos and determining when someone who can’t grow Shtei Saaros (either due to a chromosomal issue or due to chemotherapy) becomes a Gadol. You can listen to the Harchakos part here and the Shtai Saaros part here.

Immediately afterwards Dr. Yaakov Abdelhak, a top OBGYN who specializes in high risk pregnancies, gave us a talk on the medical background we need to know about Niddah, birth control, and childbirth in order to be able to answer Shailos. You can listen to that here. You can download the powerpoint he refers to in his talk to follow alonghere.

Rabbi Gottlieb gave us Shiur on doing Bedikos before and after Tashmish. You can listen to thathere.

Rabbi Apter gave us many Shiurim on Arvei Pedachim full of Halacha, Lomdus, and Divrei Torah. You can listen to them all online or on the app.

You can listen to the Shiur the Rosh Yeshiva’s gave by his annual Siyum on Shas Bavli and Yerushalmihere.

Just another reminder that if you are planning on contributing to the Sefer the Kollel’s annual Sefer it is due on the second day of Rosh Chodesh Iyar (which is also the first day of summer Zman). We would like to get pieces from as many Rabbeim, alumni, and Yungeleit as possible. Please try to submit something if you are able.

Enjoy the rest of your Pesach!

4/11/2016I know I haven’t been so good about sending emails lately, but this is huge.

I just found out Dr. Abdelhak will be speaking to the Kollel at 10:30 A.M. tomorrow in the Beis Medresh Katan. For those of you who were lucky enough to be there the last two times he spoke to the Kollel you’ll know that this is something you don’t want to miss.

Rabbi Moshe Kozovzki, a Talmid of Rav Elyashiv ZT”L who has published several Seforim of Pesakim from Rav Elyashiv has graciously agreed to reschedule his Shiur to 10:00 A.M. to accommodate the scheduling conflict. He will start with a few Pesakim in Niddah and then move on to discuss many of Rav Elyashiv’s most fascinating Pesakim in all areas of Halacha.

We will have a tight schedule tomorrow so please try to be there on time. Also, if you know anyone else who would be interested in either of these Shiurim please let them know.

The Kollel has had a tremendous amount of Shiurim from the Rosh Yeshiva Shlita, Rabbi Gottlieb, Rabbi Dovid Apter, and Rabbi Brodie since the last email. They are all available on the app and online. My most sincere apologies for not providing links to each of them individually.

The last day of Kollel before Pesach break is this Thursday. We will be off from Friday until Rosh Chodesh. We will resume first Seder on Monday the second day of Rosh Chodesh Iyar. Please try to have your piece for the annual Sefer the Kollel puts out ready by then. We are looking for submissions from all Rabbeim, Kollel Yungeleit, and Alumni in all areas of Halacha, but if possible we would prefer pieces that are relevant to Hilchos Niddah.

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Eliyahu Wincelberg.

2/29/2016 Update

Thanks so much to everyone who came to the Kollel and Alumni Melava Malka. Baruch Hashem, this was by far the largest and most successful Melava Malka in Yeshiva history. The Rosh Yeshiva did a question and answer session where he covered many topics such as moving to Eretz Yisrael, whether to leave a Shul that has too much talking, Chalav Stam baby formula, voting for president, Hamotzi on Pizza, what age to teach your daughters about Tznius, whether to come late to Davening to get a hat, and more. It doesn’t seem to have been uploaded yet, but when it does you should definitely listen to it. The Kollel is joining with Beis Medresh Ohr Chaim, Kahal Ahavas Yitzchok, and Yeshivas Ohr Reuven to run the annual All night Megilla program. In short those who are interested will be learning the entire Meseches Megilla in one Friday night, followed by a Siyum after Netz. Friday night March 11th will start at Beis Medresh Ohr Chaim at 8:15 P.M. Friday Night March 18th (Parshas Zachor) will start at 9:00 P.M. in Kahal Ahavas Yitzchok. The extended details are at the end of this email. I will be out of town from Tuesday to Thursday. Hopefully, this shouldn’t affect anything. Benzie Senter is considering offering a CPR course (with certification from the American Heart Association) at a discounted rate plus a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Kollel if there is interest. Please let me know if you are interested. There is also an option of arranging a similar course for woman if they need it (it can be taught by a woman if they want). Rabbi Brodie is unsure whether he will be giving his Vaad tomorrow at 9:50 A.M. If you would like to be updated when the Kollel finds out, please text Aryeh Frank(516-316-3966). Hopefully the Rosh Yeshiva will also speak tomorrow. Rav Warfman is currently on for Shimush on Wednesday. Please be in touch with Menachem Weinreb (845-659-3957) if you have any questions. Rabbi Gottlieb spoke last week about Kesamim found on a woman’s body. you can listen to that HERE. Rabbi Gottlieb will be speaking on Thursday in the third floor of Darchei Noam at11:30. Dr. Don Rosenblum spoke on Friday about people that have issues becoming independent (Failure to Launch) and about the importance of continuity of care both in the medical world as well as the Frum world. You can listen to thatHERE.Dr. Rosenblum will be speaking on Friday morning at approximately 10:00 A.M.

You are cordially invited to partake in the annual All-Night Megilla program. This year, for the first time, we will be having two programs.

The first program will take place on Friday night March 11th (Parshas Pekudei) at Beis Medresh Ohr Chaim (20 Forshay).

The second program will take place on Friday night March 18th (Parshas Vayikra/Zachor) at Kahal Ahavas Yitzchok (73 Forshay).

As always we plan to finish the entire Mesechta in one night.

All we need is your participation.

Schedule: Pekudei (18 Forshay) Vayikra (73 Forshay)
Food Commences 8:15 P.M. 9:00 P.M.
Start Meseches Megilla 8:30 P.M. 9:15 P.M.
Break With Hot Food 12:45 A.M. 1:30 A.M.
Start the Second Perek 1:05 A.M. 1:50 A.M.
Finish the Mesechta and Start Davening 5:30 A.M. 6:15 A.M.
Netz Hachama 6:12 A.M. 7:00 A.M.

Siyum after Davening!

2/8/2016

I apologize for the incredibly long amount of time since the last update. My internet went down and we just got it back up. I am going to attempt to remember all of the Shiurim from the last four weeks I didn’t send out an email. If I miss any please let me know and I’ll try to include it in next week’s email.

We are working on rebranding the annual Melaveh Malka to include the Kollel as well. I’ll try to keep you posted as on further updates as it gets closer.

Yosef Herskovitz has done a tremendous amount of work getting the Kollel website to look as professional as possible (check out the new schedule page from a computer for example). The About page is far from ready. We are looking for high quality pictures of the Rabbeim. If you have better pictures of the Rabbeim we have up, or you have a good picture of Rabbi Bamburger, Rabbi Gottlieb,  or Rav Warfman, please send it our way. Additionally, if any of the Rabbeim would like to speak with me about which positions you would like the website to mention please feel free.

The Rosh Yeshiva spoke about Kesamim on why the Chachamim were Meikel on Begadim that are not Mekabel Tumah or are colored, whether she needs to do a Bedika afterwards, and why a Beged Hatzamid Laguf isn’t really more Tamei according to the Chasam Sofer. You can find part 1 here:http://goo.gl/iWHXrl and part 2 here: http://goo.gl/lj8Z04

The Rosh Yeshiva also gave us a Shiur on when and why one should avoid inducing labor as well as part one of defining when a woman becomes a Niddah. You can listen to that here: http://goo.gl/IhsTxU

We are eagerly awaiting part 2 when the Rosh Yeshiva gets a Refuah Shelaima, IY”H soon.

Dr. Charlie Ackerman, a retired OBGYN, gave the longest talk in the entire Ohr Reuven Audio Library covering all that Rabbanim need to know about the menstrual cycle, anatomy, physiology, several types of birth control, and common procedures. Thank you to Dr. Frommer and Dr. Kram for arranging it, and thank you to Dr. Kram, Mr. Dovid Yosef Berman, Avrami Balsam, and Bentzie Senter for arranging the lavish breakfast that was served.

Rabbi Coren spoke about helping a couple become Tahor as soon as possible after childbirth. You can listen to that here: https://goo.gl/ostZPz

An important 30 second introduction was also added to the Shiur that was not stated live. Even if you were there live you should listen to it here: https://goo.gl/to0EVB

You can listen to both parts together by clicking here: http://goo.gl/Cfm4hc (This should also be a higher quality recording.)

Dr. Ben Fogelman, a anesthesiologist at Good Sam came in to tell us what Rabbanim need to know about epidurals. You can listen to that by clicking here: http://goo.gl/FLA1CKRabbi Brodie finished off the series on Shalom Bayis with a talk on avoiding and solving fights over intimacy which you can listen to here: http://goo.gl/RGlOqt and a talk on what a Rav should do if he gets a call “my spouse is abusing me”, when to call Child Protective Services to have a child removed from the parents, and whether or not parents should have disagreements in front of their kids. There were a couple of problems with the recording of that one. It is about 90% intact although there are two places where it is missing a minute or two and it gets quieter. I’m not sure if it will be uploaded however if you would like to hear what was recorded let me know and I will try to get it for you from Heshy. We need to decide on a new topic for the next series in Practical Aspects Of Rabbanus. Some people have suggested Chinuch although I would prefer something else as a tremendous amount of Chinuch was taught in the Kids At Risk series. I am currently thinking about something along the lines of how to do a Bikkur Cholim or Shiva call/visit. Any thoughts or ideas? Rabbi Gottlieb gave a number of Shiurim. He spoke about why a Kesem on a Davar She’Aino Mekabel Tumah is Tahor and whether it applies to pads. You can listen to that here: http://goo.gl/qN5hM1He spoke about when to give Heter for a woman to wear Tzivonim during Shiva Nekiim which you can listen to here: http://goo.gl/h0ljI1Rabbi Gottlieb then spoke about the history of why the Chachamim were Gozer Tumah on Dam Tahor. You can listen to that here: https://goo.gl/MvfbPE (You may be able to find a higher quality recording on the app although this recording is fine.)The last Shiur covered the husband being in the room during childbirth, fasting during pregnancy, whether false labor makes her a Niddah, and when exactly is Pesichas Hamekor which would make her a Niddah during exams and the birth process. You can listen to that here:  https://goo.gl/XkXA2x(The Shiur is unfortunately not on the app or the Yeshiva website as I forgot to be on top of getting it taken care of. Hopefully I will take care of it tomorrow.) Dr. Don Rosenblum spoke about the importance of Rabbanim finding about as much as they can about the family history of their congregants who need their assistance. You can listen to that here: https://goo.gl/MJbaST Dr. Michael Kram spoke (with help from Dr. Don Rosenblum) about how Rabbanim can be of assistance when helping a family of a congregant navigate the complex medical web to try to get them the best help they can get, how to actually be able to advise and offer guidance when the family comes to ask about complex medical questions, and how to deal with doctor’s haughtiness. You can listen to that here: https://goo.gl/ZnsED6

1/13/16

Mazal Tov to Ari and Shevy Krasnow on the birth of a baby girl! May they be Zocheh Legadlah LeTorah, LeChuppah, Ulemaasim Tovim!

Shimush today is unfortunately off as Rav Warfman is out of town.

This coming Sunday the Kollel will be hosting Dr. Charlie Ackerman. Dr. Ackerman is a retired OBGYN with over 40 years of experience helping the Monsey community. He will be giving us a talk at 10:00 A.M. on the topic of Gynecology- Anatomy and Physiology as it pertains to Halacha. There will be a light breakfast served sponsored by Dr. Michael Kram.

The Rosh Yeshiva gave us Shiur last week and continued discussing why the Chachamim were Gozer on Kesamim as well as whether a woman should do a Bedikah after she finds a Kesem that isn’t Metameh her. You can listen to that by clicking here: http://goo.gl/6DAucb

Rabbi Brodie gave his Shalom Bayis Vaad last week on the topic of how to have constructive discussions. You can listen to that by clicking here: http://goo.gl/5QO1TB

As always, please submit your questions by responding to this email or giving them to me in person.

The next Vaad will be next Tuesday morning at 9:50 A.M. in the Beis Medresh Katan.

Rabbi Gottlieb gave us Shiur last week on the topic of Kesamim on colored clothing. You can listen to that by clicking here: http://goo.gl/85HXzi

Rabbi Gottlieb will be giving us Shiur tomorrow at 11:30 A.M. in the third floor of Darchei Noam.

Dr. Don Rosenblum is going to be on for this Friday morning at 10:00 A.M. (Previously we had told a few people that it was cancelled. That was a mistake).

Donate to the Kollel! https://goo.gl/cRZgtZ
